Information with relation to studio lighting?
Hi all
Ive been reading some of the forum postings with relaiton to studio lighting and just wanted to get some advice with relation to studio lighting
The general gists that I am getting is that you need around 300W lights, backdrops, softboxes , umbrellas, and a large space to work in
I wanted to know if anyone had experience with Studio Works© 400w flashguns
Any assistance would be appreciated, if anyone knows any good locations outstide of Vanbar, Michaels, Camera Exchange and Dragon image to purchase lighting I would be great to hear
Im spending around $800 on a lighting kit, I have my mind on one however Im willing to hear suggestions

I am not familiar with the types of lights you want to use or the places you want to buy them from but I can answer some of your questions.
I have various lights (100w-1500w) that I use depending on what I am doing and you don’t need a big place if you are just shooting portraits and full length photos. I have a set that is only 100w and they are really good for me to shoot this kind of work on. I use soft boxes on these and other lights I use larger umbrellas.
If this is the case then you want to work with muslin backgrounds (better than paper and more durable) that are large enough for you to do up to full length (10-16ft long x 8-12ft wide). I would suggest a gray one to start since it is neutral and will match with most peoples clothing.
Here are two sites about basic lighting:

Hope this helps,
