camcorder firewire mac
How to I get live feed on my Mac using a Camcorder?

I teach a stop motion animation class for kids. The place that I work at uses Mac books, istop motion and an older DV camcorder that has a Firewire connection. I need to buy one more camera, but newer cameras don’t have Firewire connections!!

So. I’m not sure what kind of camcorder to buy, or whether I need to buy some sort of adapter?

Any advice would be great.

You are right. Flash memory, hard disc drive and DVD camcorders do not have firewire (DV) ports. The “live feed” problem you have is not just a Mac issue – same problem with Windows machines.

The Canon ZR960 is a standard def miniDV tape cam… So are the Canon HV40 and Sony HDR-HC9. All have a 4-pin DV (firewire, IEEE1394 compliant) port.

There is no “adapter” that will work to do what you want without a firewire port and connection…
