what hardware do I need to burn HD movies from my Sony HD Camcorder?

Do I need a special HD recorder or can I use my DVD-ROM?

You need a HD DVD burner or BluRay burner disc drive, and HD DVD or BluRay discs depending on the type of burner you get. BluRay seems to be getting a lot more support, and from what I’ve been reading, seems to have the more favorable codec for HD material. So, that’s what I’d recommend.

Normal DVD discs and DVD-rom drives are not compatable with HD. You can probably archive the video file itself to DVD disc (assuming the HD file is small enough), but you can’t author HD video to regular DVD discs unless you convert the HD video down to Standard Definition mpeg2.
