when flying with continental, do camera bags (with cameras) count as a ‘personal item’?

i want to take my canon xsi rebel camera, along with two lenses, in thier case, which is about 12x8x8 inches. does this count as a personal item that i can take in addition to a backpack?

I am sure the airline would not have a problem considering your camera case as your personal item. I just took my large computer case along with a carry-on suitcase last week on Continental and they had no problem with it. In fact you could put your camera case in a suitcase that would fit in the overhead (usually a 20 x 15 x 8 will fit) and use your backpack as your personal item (as long as your backpack will fit under the seat infront of you) I have seen people get away with worse
