Can anyone list good companies for digital camera?

Top brands for advanced cameras such a DSLRs are, in alphabetical order -

Canon, Fujifilm, Leica (BIG $$$), Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Sony and to a more limited degree Sigma (who makes lenses for many different camera brands, but has entered the advanced camera market). All of these companies make high quality cameras with significant market position that means they are likely to stay in the business for the foreseeable future.

For the consumer Point & Shoot market you can add a few companies such as Casio, Kodak, Polaroid and Ricoh as high quality brands. Almost all of the DSLR manufacturers make at least some P&S models, too.

In the United States Canon & Nikon are the leading brands based on sales volume with Sony closing the gap since they have acquired the rights to the now defunct Konica/Minolta camera brand(s). Fuji & Olympus are also a strong contenders because they have a wide selection of quality cameras in many price ranges.
