Different camera effects for various types of shows (sitcom,drama, etc)?

Why is is that a soap opera looks different on tv visually than a sitcom or a drama? What cameras are used to show these different effects?

Television Cameras are basically the same – there are only two or three manufactuers used in the uk, Sony – Thompson – Ikigami….Thought the introduction of HD will soon change all this. Another aspect which effects what you see is the lens size used, Standard or tight and Wide angle…..Also, most shows these days are filmed on Beta video tape which is cheaper to use than film. The look of a show can be determined in the edit, especially when it has been graded (colour). Lighting and filters may also have an influence though this is not as obvious.
