my camera was stolen when on holiday

Last year I bought a camera 2nd hand , I did not get a reciept or ant box .now my insurance refuse to replace my stolen gear or give a cash settlement. IS THIS RIGHT, IS ANYTHING I CAN DO ?

Another point is if you do take cameras on holiday or watches make a note of the serial numbers, make also model number.You have not got a leg to stand on
