Camera help! NIKON VS. CANON?

I’m getting an SLR camera for my birthday and I need some advice. I don’t know whether to go for a Nikon or a Canon & my price range is $500-$600. OPTIONS/IDEAS/OPINIONS PLEASE?

Both, like Fhotoace pointed out, are very great systems to use. Equal amounts of professionals use Canon and Nikon. You could get a few Nikon and Canon cameras for that money. Now, you have a decision to make: which system will you get yourself into. You need to make that decision first.

The Nikon D40 is a great camera. I own one personally, and i love it, but there are a few draw-backs. It is currently the cheapest digital SLR camera on the market. A comparable Canon would be the Rebel XS with live view, an IS lens, and ten megapixels.

Personally, i would go for the XS, you get more for the money.This isn’t to say, however, that Canon is generally better than Nikon. Here is the link:

The Canon has more AF points, higher resolution, live view, and a lens that comes equipped with Image Stabilization. The Canon is better
