camera ring jewelry
Thinking about purchasing the Pentax K-X with 18-55 lens..can I use a macro with this lens to shoot jewelry?

Pentax K-X SLR camera..comes with an 18-55 lens..does anyone know if I can shoot close-ups with this lens by just changing the setting on the camera? I would like to photograph large objects, such as a chair..and change the setting quick to photograph the details on a ring or piece of jewelry..and have fine details picked up. Help! THANKS! :) :):)

Cheap add-on lenses are going to give you a couple of things that product photography abhors. Soft edges and either barrel or pincushion distortion.

I could ask if this is the first time you have used a fully adjustable camera before (which by nature uses interchangeable lenses), but I think it would be moot.

If you goal is to shoot both “regular” things like landscapes, people and a little portraiture as well as small items like jewelry, you need a proper macro lens like the Pentax 50 mm f/2.8 macro lens and a tripod, light tent and some lighting.

What you are describing is what one can expect on a P&S camera with an all in one lens (since you cannot change them), but now you are in an area that versatility is the goal of a photographers choice of tools and you are going to have to be prepared to buy the tools you need for each type photography
