Canon SD750 or A570?
Im getting a replacement camera since my old one was stolen. I’ve narrowed it down to these 2 models. Both have received good ratings. The SD750($200) is a little out of my price range, whereas the A570 ($140) is more ideal. The SD750 is my ideal size and the A570 seems it may be too big. (my old camera was ultra-compact). The A570 has the IS-image stabilizer, which I have heard is worth it…although I really don’t know (is it worth it?)
I’m basically a point and shoot person who has a camera to simply upload them on the computer and send it to friends. However, i want some decent quality in them, better than the average. Should i splurge to get the more compact sd750 or go with the a570?
I would advise you against buying the SD750 camera. Although this camera is capable of taking an outstanding picture, it lacks the necessary design feature of an optical viewfinder. This means that you must take your pictures holding your camera at arms length away from your face so that you can see your image on the LCD finder. This is the least stable way anyone can possibly hold a camera and is almost an instant guaranteed disaster to any thoughts of good image sharpness.
The A570 not only has an optical viewfinder, which allows you to take most of your pictures with your camera held firmly against your forehead in both hands (this is the most stable way you can hold any camera), but it also offers you the advantage of image stabilization, which, although not magic, can be a big contributor to holding the camera still and getting sharp images, even under low lighting conditions.
Between the two cameras, I would have to advise getting the A570 IS without any reservations. You should find it far easier to handle and capable of taking excellent sharp pictures when used properly.
