Good Value digital camera to buy?

Hello, im looking to purchase a new digital camera. I have seen the panasonic TZ6 on a few websites and the camera appears to get some rave reviews. The points that put me off are the battery life / availability & the physical size of the camera. Ideally im looking to get a camera that is more compact than the TZ6 but still has similar qualities. The panasonic FX550 looks like a possible contender, can anyone confirm this or have any other suggestions on any other models?

If you want one with more compact I would suggest Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZX1EB-K 12.1MP, 8x Optical Zoom.0.3mm super thin.
