Are flashes and lenses from SLR cameras compatible with Digital cameras?

I have a Nikon SLR (film) camera which I do not use anymore. I want to buy a Digital camera and I am wondering if the extra flashes and lenses (zoom, portrait, etc…), from my original camera, could be used with a Digital camera. Or do I have to purchase “digital” accessories?

Old flashes can fry the electrics in DSLRs. DSLRs can only bear trigger voltages of around 10v and some old flashes can give a 400v kick, that can prove fatal to digital cameras.
