How does the quality of a 4meg digital camera compare with a, let’s say,12 meg camera on a standard size photo?

If one has a 12 meg digital camera, are its pictures necessarily better on a standard photo 4″x6″ photo than a 4 meg camera? Can the 12 meg put more pixels in that size photo than a 4 meg? I know there is an advantage when larger sizes are taken. Please enlighten me on this.

You won’t notice any difference at all on a 4×6 photo. The printer doesn’t print at high enough resolution to squeeze those extra 8mp onto the paper. You’ll only notice a difference if you want LARGE prints or if you want to digitally crop your images. In all honesty, for most general use you don’t need anything more than 5mp.
