filters on digital cameras?

I am looking to buy a new digital camera since mine kinda broke. I found a nice one and it says that some special features are black & white gree filter, etc… As a photographer I should know what that means, but I dont. Can anyone help me out?

Before digital, to get different tones and contrasts in B&W, colored filters were put on the lens.

Digital has now added in camera filters that do the same effect the screw on lens filters used to do when shooting B&W.

What the specs are saying is that the camera you are looking at has those in camera features.

Just do a web search on the effects of colored filters in B&W – you’ll get a lot to look at.
