Digital camera shopping help!!?

I am needing to buy a new digital camera since my long used Canon got soda spilled on it.
I have been looking into either Canon or Nikon and I am wondering which is better and what would be the best mega pixals and all to get? I am also looking to get a camera with a charging cable, you know no batteries…
If someone could guide me on what would be best, that would be awesome!
Also, I am looking to spend less than $250.

I would suggest to take a look of Canon’s SD line. For example, SD790 IS or SD890 IS. Both use a Li-ion rechargeable battery.
