“What’s a good overall digital camera package for photographing wildlife and nature?”?

I am an amateur photographer, but a true artist with an eye for detail and also making sure shots are at a 90 degree angle most times. I’m a Land Surveyor for 14 years,an avid river rat,scuba diver,camper etc.
So needless to say, I spend a lot of time outdoors. I just need a really good tough camera, easy to use, and a long wide lense for far off shots.

You need the Nikon D700. Good for wide angle and sealed for outside use.

Keep in mind that the 40D, although an extremely good camera, is an APS-C sensored camera and it is not sealed. Thus you will have to buy special lenses for wide angle work and be extra careful about environmental exposure. Price alone should not guide your choice.
