How do I transfer video from a DVD camera to a Compaq laptop? Laptop does not have a firewire input.?

Compaq laptop appears to have an S-video input and some other polygon shaped input with a bunch of little holes in it. Why doesn’t this Compaq have a firewire input like my Mac? I thought all computers have that.
