Mini DV vs. Flash camcorder question?

I am in the market for a camcorder, but I am torn between a flash camcorder like the Flip UltraHD, and this Sony Mini-DV camcorder that’s just under $250 at BestBuy. I like the idea of the flash camera from the standpoint that the video can be quickly uploaded to the computer…..however, for something that cost $200, I could get the Sony and get a 40x optical zoom, nightshot feature, and image stabilization…….what are your opinions?

It depends ( sorry) on what you want to do with the camera. if its for general videos you know family friends, that sort of thing then every time I would go with the Mini-dv. picture quality will be very good, and the video once on your computer is easy to edit. Down side to them is the length of time it takes to capture to your computer, but hay while its capturing you can go onto yahoo answers,

Flash video cameras are small light, and convenient, but there are a couple of things they don’t do very well first is action video, fast moving stuff, second the video is compressed (made smaller) and then you start to loose quality, so the more you try to get onto you media card the worse it gets.

media/flash card are not that expensive ( at todays prices) unless you get some of the very big ones. Mini-dv tape is cheap and if you record something that you want to keep then just leave it on the tape as a backup and use another one. 99% of all editing software will import video from a tape (AVI) and the captured video will be as good as the camera has taken, almost no loss in quality.

any way that’s my opinion, I would put my mini-dv camcorders up against ANY flash camera or HDD camera and I know what will be the better quality video

Good luck
