Is hong kong a good place to find a nice camera at a good price?

And where is a good place to look?

To tell you the truth, I think it is better if you go to a large electronic store to buy the camera. I know this isn’t exactly good of me to say this, and my viewpoint, observation, and opinion certainly does not reflect the stereotyped, but places like Mongkok/Jordan/Sham Shui Po are not exactly the BEST place to buy a camera if you’re afraid to take risks. Of course, the situation in these places have been improved, but sometimes they will just price their items at ridiculous prices for tourists. Indeed, fortress/broadway and other large electronic stores in HK’s largest malls are safe. Well, except for the small ones in Pacific Place or IFC. They just trick you like the ones in Mongkok.

If you’re looking for a one stop place to search for the camera, then I would recommend Harbor City in Kowloon. It’s like one of the best and most diverse malls in HK, along with Times Square, but without loosing quality in the shops. fyi, both are located in extremely good locations.(not considering Pacific Place/IFC as they are rather high-end and less diverse for some people)

Harbor City and Times Square all have a floor/section dedicated to electronics and for the pricing, I do not know whether it can be justified to you for I don’t know what model you’re after or where you’re from…
But well let me say this, the price should be cheaper, given that HK’s tax free, and the prices that the shops that Fortress/Broadway and other large companies (there’s one or two more that can be trusted, sorry forgot about the name, but if you’re interested, one of them is opposite to Fortress/Broadway in Harbor city) It has a green sign. (sorry all I can remember!) Oh and if you’re looking for a Sony one, there’s also this sony store next to broadway/fortress in harbor city!
Okay back to the price, sorry for going out of the way, but the price should not be THAT cheap like $500 cheaper, I mean I would be taken aback if the price is so much cheaper, you should know that there’s something wrong, but these stores are definitely selling the REAL and LATEST products, and cameras like Canon’s S90 are now of a lower price, as I think that model is getting older but nevertheless still the best for beginners! (that’s me) i think it’s selling for 3100/3200 something HKD now?
Anyway, hope you get my point, Fortress/Broadway and the green sign shop are the largest electronic companies in HK, they may not sell for the cheapest price, but you get what you’re getting and you won’t find any fakes/faulty ones there. Well you should still check if they’re working fine of course! But you get what you paid and you don’t have to worry about getting a fake.
