How can I import video from my camcorder without a firewire cable?

I seem to have lost my DV firewire cable. I cannot import my school project from my camcorder to my computer. The USB cable on accesses the memory card, and not the tape. How can I access this an record it onto any form of media? If I can get it into imovie I’ll be set.
Is there anyway I can use the AV jack?

If you use the AV cable connected to the AV jack you will be sending analog video out of the camcorder which means you will need to plug it the other end of the AV cable into an “analog digital converter”… or a “capture card”. A firewire based analog digital converter from Canopus (ADVC55 or ADVC110) will work fine. But if you do not already have one, it will be WAY less $ to get a $10 (or less) firewire cable.

Since you did not tell us which Macintosh (we know that much because you are using iMovie), we don’t know which firewire cable you need. And hopefully you don’t have a MacBook or MacBook Air that does not have a firewire port and no way to add one.

If you have an external “direct to DVD” burner, you can connect the camcorder and AV cable to that, burn a DVD, then rip the video from the DVD with HandBrake… That video quality will be very poor compared to the firewire importing process…
