multi camera viewing software

How do take multi images of an object so as to build up a 360deg panoramic view?
So….i have some software that allows you to view an object in 360 mode but added loads of images of the object to it, the demo object they show in this software is made up of 65 images so like taking a photo of the object then rotating by a few degrees and then another photo etc until you have enough photos to build up a 3d 360deg object.
So my question is, what is the best way to generate these 65 images, do you take a video of the object with say your digi camera or something and then break the video into 65 images or so from this, of do you take 65 still photos and try and keep a steady hand / position around the object, i guess when thinking about it they would use a tripod and studio, anyone done anything like this?
Or maybe they use something like a 3d scanner ??
I have never done a 360 degree panorama but I have done many panoramas. The technique would be basically the same though. Below are the steps to doing a panorama. Refer to your software instructions for stitching the photos together.
1. Tripod. This is essential. You need to have the horizon even and level throughout the panorama for it to look natural.
2. Camera. You want to take an average meter reading and stick to it. Your aperture should be the same throughout. This will keep your depth of field the same. Changing the aperture will change the DOF. DOF is the amount of the scene that is in focus. For landscapes you want everything in focus from near to far. This means you should use a small aperture (larger number). If you must change something change the shutter speed.
3. The shots. With you camera mounted on the tripod and your exposure set start at the left side. Take a shot. Pan to the right over lapping the last shot by about 25%. Continue until you have the whole scene done.
4. Then upload the pictures to your computer and use the software to stitch them together.
