What is a good book to buy to learn the basics of photography?

I have a DSLR camera (Canon Rebel xti) and I am trying to learn more about it and about photography in general. So if anyone has some recommendations on books or any tips, I would be greatly appreciative.

I don’t think you need to spend money on this.
I became VERY good friends with the photography section of my local library, which had lots of great books.
As well as books, the internet is full of resources, amongst those are
the major camera manufacturers (like Canon, Nikon, Olympus etc) who all have very useful sections on their website for learning about photography.

Taking a class at your local college or community center would be great, too.
