what setting for shooting lightning?
I have a canon EOS, I dont know a whole lot about photography but i understand the basics. what setting do i use? I know i should use 100 ISO and f/11, but on what setting?
You have to do it at night, and you have to have the camera on a tripod or other firm surface. Indeed use 100 ISO and f11 or possibly f8. The shutter should be on ‘Time’ or ‘Bulb’ or however Canon expresses the idea of holding the shutter open until you closed it, i.e. not for a fixed number of seconds. Consult your handbook on that. Open the shutter and hope for a lightning flash. Close the shutter after you have seen a flash in the general direction where your lens is pointing.
Years ago I took 20 pics in a fairly spectacular storm in Gibraltar, and thought I had got at least one flash per picture. 18 were failures, one not great, but one was splendid. So be prepared for a few failures.
