I am thinking about entering National Geographic Kid’s Photography Contest…?

I am thirteen, and I was wondering what you thought a possible entry for the Animal Category: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lettherumpusstart/3891783024/in/photostream/
I would really appreciate any constructive criticism or anything at all that could help me :) Thanks!

Also, if you’d look at my other photos, that’d be great too!(flickr.com/lettherumpusstart)

I mean its not bad….from a compositional point of view, it tends to follow the basic thirds rule…the depth of field is nice, with the subject in focus and the background out of focus.

That being said…the image doesn’t really give me a YIKES factor, or being scared factor….know what I mean….A winning shot of a spooky spider would creep the bejezzus out of someone….a little bit more of a close up, with like 8 pairs of eyes staring right at the camera, with sharp fangs protuding…….

I think if the web was sprayed with a little mist of water…you would get a nice effect of shiny pearls glimmering, highlighting more of the web itself…

What captures my attention MOST in this photo is the out of focus background…..like 2/3rds of the image is the background !!!!

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t send it in though….If you don’t enter, you can’t win…

If they have an abstract catergory, I’d say you would have a better chance with pink pickled onions, RX, or ICE

Glacier Grey, Torres del Paine, Patagonia, Chile, Frank Fakinos
