What do I need for a faster, better performing PC?
I have an HP m7170n Media Center PC. It came with XP but I upgraded it to Vista when it first came out and I have issues with the graphics card, I believe… sometimes FireFox and AIM will shut down for no reason… not too sure what it is.
I am looking to make it faster and to not have issues like I have been having. I play the occasional game, like the Sims and I edit photography and chat and browse online daily. I am buying a laptop for now but I use my desktop more and would rather have that be the better performer.
I have been browsing Newegg trying to find out what exactly I need but I am a noob and know nothing. Any questions about my computer, just ask!
I have 1 GB PC2 4200 DDR2 SDRAM Memory… whatever that means.
Based on what I find here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00388385&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ca&product=483897 I’d say that you need to add more RAM. You are running Vista on only 1Gb of RAM. To run smoothly you need at least 2Gb and preferabley 4Gb of RAM.
I’d also upgrade/replace the video card. Your current one is only 128mb. I’d find a PCIe card with 512mb and you’ll see a marked improvement.
