photography lighting techniques book

How difficult is it to learn digital SLR techniques?
I’d like to take beautiful photography, like the ones on AnthonyPlummer.com
I use a point-and-shoot Canon, but I’d like to do much better.
How hard is it to learn digital SLR techniques? Can it be learned, or does it just come natural to some people?
Are there any really good books to help me learn about lighting and such?
P.S. After you buy the camera, you have to buy a lot of different lenses? How do you know which lens to use?
actually you can train the eye to see things as an artist/photographer, it’s called practice practice practice
also taking a class or two at your local community college will help a great deal, they offer photography at many levels (including beginner) and the classes are not expensive.
if you have a passion for photography: shoot, shoot every chance you get, take a class or two, join a photography or camera club, (i am a member of one here, it’s great fun, and i’ve learned much and am becoming a sharper photographer because of my participation)
and most importantly: enjoy…have fun with it.
