photography studio equipment hire
Is a business license required to do freelance photography?

I’ve been working in a studio for 2 years now as a photographer. I recently decided that i wanted to spread my wings a bit and do events, weddings etc…

In order to get hired for my services and have customers by prints of my photos is a business license required?

I don’t have a studio just some standard lighting equipment and camera.

I plan on doing this in california.
I didn’t mean to say I intend to quit my current job. Just that I’m ready to do work outside the studio. I have years of exp with photoshop too. I can also print proffesional quality prints out of the studio. I was advised I might need a business license in order to legally be hired for my services and sell pictures.

NO. but you would have to register as self-employed or at the very least declare your freelance income on your tax returns.
