Photography lighting setup?
Ok. I bought some photography lighting like this

but there is one more light like those, but with no umbrella. How do I set the lights up to take a family portrait? or just a single person portrait? And which way are the umbrellas supposed to be facing? with the light inside the umbrella, but on the person, or with the umbrella facing the person with the light behind it?
Wow. Lot’s of questions in there…
First, if the umbrella has black on the outside it is intended to bounce the light back at the subject. If it is white, it is probably a “shoot-thru” umbrella to be used like a softbox.
You might want to read up on lighting. I took a class that was 10 hours per day for a week, to learn about how to set up lights. It isn’t as easy as it might seem.
You might want to look into a book on lighting. One of my favorites is just called the Photographer’s Lighting Cookbook.
