Can someone help?? Photography lighting emergency!!?
Hello All!
So I have a degree in Graphic Design and do photography as a hobby, but I have recently gotten some freelance to do Hotel Room photos for a nice hotel. They have remodeled their rooms and want nice photos for the websites.
The problem is, I have never used professional lighting and I dont know what I need. I tried to find a photo of something they are looking for but cant find one.
I need to know what kind of lighting to use to make sure the room is bright. The example they showed me from another photographer looked like he places lights behind the furniture so those areas werent dark and everything was very “warm” if you will. I hope that makes sense
I have an Olympus Evolt E-500 by the way and I dont know if I need to go to a photo place and buy lights or buy lights elsewhere that can accomplish the same thing, they want to move forward soon.

Ambient and tungsten will be your best best if you are shooting digital. Make sure your white balance is correct and use small desk type lamps shooting upwards in the corners behind the furniture.
Very Important… set you exposure for the ambient light on the outside of the room… you do not want the exterior view to be burned out… you want it perfect. All else can be balanced and corrected in Photoshop.
Invest in the latest version of Photoshop instead of lighting… it will fair you better and universally be of more value in the long run.
DO NOT USE A WIDE ANGLE LENS… you will distort the sides of the image. It would be better to take several shots in a pan series and merge them in photoshop. You are a student with a degree so you should have little trouble balancing the exposures of each shot. Use a tripod and shoot with about 1/3 image overlap on each shot. A typical room would take about 5 images. Photoshop is an excellent tool for merging once you have the images balanced.
