quality cameras nz
Need a proper Photography cam, don’t know where to start?

I’ve experimented with photography for ages, and lately a friend asked me if I would give her some shots for her cafe, then some other people heard and I now have some people wnating photography for their stores and cafes. However, I honestly know very little about photography, and have only been using a Digital camera (Sony cybershot) with altered settings, but nothing fancy, and most definitely not ideal.
Im looking itno buyig a better camera but don’t know what I’m looking for. To get an idea of the New Zealand market (and where Ive been looking) – http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/CategoryListings.aspx?mcat=0124-&rewritten=true&

If that link doesn’t work just go to trademe.co.nz then click electronics & photography.

I’m not a pro and definitely don’t think so, but if they want my shots then I want to give them something of quality.

Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Well first off if they like your shots with what you already have then you should just keep doing it. At least until you get other gear and you are VERY comfortable with it. Some would try to persuade you to get a DSLR, but the jump from a pretty much automatic camera to a pretty much full manual camera is a pretty big leap. But that’s what many consider a pro camera.

As for finding the camera that’s right for you, you are the one that’s going to have to figure that one out yourself. Go to a camera shop and hold a few cameras. Browse the menus. Click a few shots, see how they look. How do they feel in your hands? If you decide on a DSLR then the brand name is pretty much irrelivent. I say this not because they arent good cameras, it’s because they are all pretty good cameras compared to point and shooters. They all have good and bad points. So get the one that you think you will be most comfortable shooting with. After all, none of the other specs on a camera matter if you aren’t comfortable enough with it to pull it out of the camera bag.

If all they are doing is using your pics for websites and 4×6 snapshot style stuff, your current camera may be just the thing anyways.
