Does the type of battery charger matter to charge my digital camera Sony batteries?

yes. you need to know what type of battery you have and buy the correct type of charger. your batteries will either be Nimh (nickel metal hydryte) or Li-ion (lithium ion) some other types are there but they are very old and almost not used in digital cameras. Both types of batteries has rapid chargers

Using the wrong charger will at least overheat and damage the battery. charging Li-ion batteries on Nimh charger can make them catch ON FIRE so be careful.

Also you need to get the correct shape and size of charger. for example if your batteries are AA then don’t get an AAA charger. these look awfully similar to each other and it is easy you can mix them up.
