Question about wedding photography pricing for relative?
My husband and I own a photography business in Pennsylvania. My cousin, who lives in Florida has asked us to do her wedding. She wants our $1,000 package. What would you charge?
We are figuring to go down there for about 4 days (driving), we are looking at about $750 for the short trip (since we wouldn’t be doing any activities or anything, just hanging out with family.) Would you just charge that and do the photos as a gift, or would you figure in something on top of the travel cost too?
No, we wouldn’t have been attending if we weren’t asked to photograph…due to expenses of travel and time off for our Mon-Fri jobs
If I were in your shoes I would do them at cost. Meaning that I would charge for travel expenses and any costs to develop pics, or albums or whatnot. I wouldn’t charge for my time to shoot the wedding or anything like that. Tell her that you are only charging what it is actually costing you to do this, and that is their gift. Then you won’t have to worry about getting a gift as well. I’m sure she would appreciate that much more than another toaster. Photographers are really expensive.
